The Transboundary Freshwater Dispute Database (TFDD)
is a database intended for use in aiding the process of water conflict prevention and resolution. We have developed this database, a project of the Oregon State University College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences, in collaboration with the Northwest Alliance for Computational Science and Engineering.



Transboundary Freshwater Spatial Database
Biophysical, socioeconomic, and geopolitical data relating to the world's international river basins are accessible and searchable through spatial and tabular formats.

Atlas of International Freshwater Agreements
Contains an historical overview of international river basin management; a detailed listing of more than 400 international freshwater agreements; and a collection of thematic maps.

International Freshwater Treaties Database
A searchable database of nearly 450 international, freshwater-related agreements, covering the years 1820 to 2007.

International Water Event Database
A searchable database documenting historical international water relations from 1948 to 2008.

This register lists the world's international river basins, delineated by continent and basin country unit.

International River Basin Organization (RBO) Data
A database of the currently known international river basin organizations coded by basin and countries involved, including level and type of collaboration, principal issue(s), date of creation, a short description of the organization and the source.

This site contains an event database and a compilation of social, economic and hydrologic data for the state of Oregon from 1990-2004.

U.S Interstate Freshwater Compacts Database
A searchable compilation of 39 US interstate compacts.

Middle East Water Collection *Including historic Afghanistan & Iran water agreements*
The Middle East Water Collection provides access to more than 10,000 items on the subjects of politics and water in the Middle East to include historic perspective of present day conflict zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. Oregon State University is privileged to be selected to host three extensive scholarly collections of papers and data on the Middle East:

  • Dr. Thomas Naff's comprehensive life's work on the Middle East. Dr. Naff pioneered the topic of water resources and political debate in the Middle East. The collection includes journal articles, papers, newspaper clippings, books, and other documents.
  • Dr. John F. Kolars' work on Middle East geography, environment, and culture especially related to the Tigris & Euphrates Rivers. His collection includes papers and books.
  • John G. Laylin's 30 years work on Iran water agreements with its neighbors. His collection includes maps, memos, papers, and a drafted treaty on the Helmund basin with Afghanistan never ratified due to regional political conflict.

Water Conflict and Cooperation Bibliography
A searchable Zotero database of publications through 2010 concerning water conflict and cooperation, with a focus on international freshwater resources.
